Client: The Mellow Mind
Work done: Book design, concept, typography, prepress
I was commissioned to help conceptualise and design a meditation book called 'Dropping In' conceived by The Mellow Mind. Created by a meditation facilitator and mindfulness practitioner, the journal has a schedule-free format, encouraging the user to effortlessly record the core elements of their practice and freely record personal insights and observations. The author was looking for a minimal aesthetic with a focus on typography, space, simplicity, beauty and functionality.
Geometric shapes, linework, colours and textures are all designed to welcome the user to an inspiring and enriching environment. The textures were created by my partner based on a combination of photography and mixed media (oil paint, ink, charcoal). Each entry page features an area in which to record 5 key elements, along with the option to add your own, and the date is on the right hand side to allow for easy flicking through. These entry pages are then interspersed by words, phrases or quotations designed to provide a rest space at regular intervals.
The final is book is a 6x9 inch paperback printed on uncoated stock and available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Double photograph below courtesy of The Mellow Mind.
